Before & aftercare April 7, 2025

Last week
  • Thank you to everyone who supported our book fair. A love of reading is such an important developmental point of childhood. I loved seeing how excited the kids were when they got their books.
  • Rearranging: The kids were so surprised to see that we rearranged the classroom. It is nice to change up the layout every now and then to keep the room feeling fresh.
  • Collaboration: One special moment from this week was when the kindergarteners worked together with our large waffle blocks to make McDonald’s. It was interesting to watch them decide how to make the food, drinks, and toys. Originally their food was free...later, it was $100 for a meal. That was definitely some expensive fast food!
  • Art: I always love when the kids lead each other with their own projects. One of our girls really loves to yarn paint and taught her friends how to do it too. They made some really beautiful art.
  • March Madness: We had a lot of good conversations about what March Madness is. The kids chose their teams for the final 4. Our men’s prediction is Duke. Our women’s prediction is UCLA.
This WEEK
  • Thunder Over Louisville: This is such a fun event for our area! The kids will have multiple opportunities to create fireworks in the art and block stations. I’m looking forward to letting the kids use construction paper and flashlights to create their own firework designs.  There are also various transportation opportunities because the Derby Festival includes so many different transportation events. I’m sure that the kids will have fun with our paper airplane contest.
  • Week of the Young Child: This is such a special week. It emphasizes how much fun learning can be. We will work on an art project as a group. The kids will also have a chance to paint with sound by attaching a bell to their paintbrushes as they paint. There is also a cool art project where the kids can make their silhouette and then write nice words about themselves inside of it.
reminders
  • Fish Fries: The building will close at 5PM on Fridays from March 7th- April 18th.
  • Flood Donations: We have boxes by every classroom to collect items to send to the flood victims. We sent home an orange paper with more information about this project. We will continue to collect items through Monday, April 14, 2025.
  • Box Tops:You can earn $2 for St. Michael when you buy any 4 Box Tops products in a single transaction! Our Box Tops code is: QK7E4GYL. Be sure to also join the April challenge in the app.
