Curriculum
Our curriculum presents Catholic Doctrine within the framework of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.CREED | what we believeSACRAMENTS | how we celebrateCHRISTIAN LIVING | how we live; the moral lifePRAYER | how we prayTogether, we are all rooted in Jesus Christ. We believe, celebrate, and pray together as the people of God. We have made every effort to provide a doctrinally sound and developmentally appropriate program in Faith Formation.
Your involvement as a parent in this program is essential. If you know what your child is learning at each level, you can assist your child in learning the concepts and experiencing the practices offered.
Let us pray that we may be rooted in Jesus Christ as a parish faith community.
Grade 1 (Intro Catechism)
Catechist: Haley Cady Curriculum: Word of Life (Grade 1)
This class introduces children to the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the story of salvation. Children learn that God made everyone special and that God loves us; that sin separates us from God; we need Jesus to save us from our sin; and we are members of the Church to continue Christ's work of salvation. We will learn about the Bible, the Holy Family, the Saints, and the Church. This class is for children in 1st Grade. This class (or an equivalent class) must be completed the year before a child receives the Sacrament of First Communion.
Grade 2 (First Communion)
Catechist: Jennie Lathem Curriculum: Renewed & Received
This class prepares children to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. We build upon what they learned in the Intro to Catechism Course, as well as what they have learned from their parents. At least one parent must attend First Communion classes with the child. Please visit the First Communion Page for more information on the sacrament of First Holy Communion.
Grades 3-4 (Intermediate Catechism)
Catechist: Christina Smith Curriculum: Word of Life (Grades 3/4)
This class includes a study of Holy Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We utilize the Word of Life curriculum, and will alternate each year between the Grade 3 & Grade 4 texts. Children begin to explore the beauty of their Catholic faith. They learn about the mystery of the Holy Trinity, the Liturgical Year, the Saints, and the moral life. They become more knowledgeable about the Mass and its importance to our faith. This class is for children in Grades 3 & 4.
Grades 5-6 (Advanced Catechism)
Catechist: Jessica Sarver Curriculum: Connect: Bringing Faith to Life & God's Plan in Scripture
This class presents the core teachings of the Catholic faith to young people in a way that helps them connect learning with living. Year 1 will include an in-depth study of Salvation History, and there will be a heavier focus on The Creed, Liturgy/Sacraments, Morality/Justice, and Prayer in Year 2. This class is for children in Grade 5 and Grade 6. This class must be completed the year before a child begins preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Grade 7+ (Confirmation)
Catechist: Nick Smith Curriculum: TBD
Registration for Confirmation will take place in September 2024.
This class prepares young people to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. We build upon what they learned in the Advanced Catechism course in Grades 5 & 6. Youth preparing for Confirmation will begin formation in January of their 7th grade year, and formation will be divided into three parts: Part 1 (January - May): Classes will meet every Sunday, 9:30-10:30 am. Classes will focus on Salvation History & the Creed. Part 2 (June & July): Youth participate in service in the summer months. Part 3 (August - October): Classes will meet every Sunday, 9:30-10:30 am. Classes will focus on the Sacraments, specifically the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Moral Life, and Prayer. The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated by Archbishop Thompson in October of each year. Visit our Confirmation Page for more information on the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Grades 6-12 (Youth Group)
Youth Group Leader: Nick Smith
Middle/High School students meet for Youth Group 2-3 Sundays per month, 5-6:30 pm, as well as the First Friday of each month. We will also participate in service opportunities & social activities throughout the year. Visit the Youth Group page to learn more and to register for upcoming activites.
