Reconciliation

Wednesday | 5:00-5:30 pmSaturday | 3:00-4:00 pm ...and by appointment
A guide to Confession / Examination with the ten commandments
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the most unique and beautiful aspects of Catholicism. Jesus Christ, in His abundant love and mercy, established the Sacrament of Confession, so that we as sinners can obtain forgiveness for our sins and reconcile with God and the Church. The sacrament “washes us clean” and renews us in Christ.
First Reconciliation
In preparing for Reconciliation, you are gifting your child with a wonderful heritage: a faith that instills in others a capacity for sincere sorrow and an ability to change one’s actions.
Children typically begin preparing for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation in Grade 2, which is also when they begin preparation for First Communion. Classes meet on Sunday mornings from 9:30 - 10:30 am during the entire school year. Our Parent Meeting is on Sunday, August 24 at 9:30 am. The first day of class is Sunday, September 7. All children will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Wednesday, December 3. After the first time, children should be brought to the Sacrament of Reconciliation as needed. Registration for the 2025/26 school year is now open! Visit the Parish Religous Education Program page for registration information. With your help, we aim to help your child understand that their relationship with God and others can be broken through their sins and actions, and we hope to provide them with the skills to be able to ask for forgiveness, to restore these relationships, and to change their ways.
Child's Readiness
Children typically begin preparing for First Reconciliation and First Communion in Grade 2, but not all children will be ready at this age. Children may be ready to prepare for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation & First Communion when they meet the following:• An awareness that God loves them• Regular participation in Sunday Mass• Regular attendance and participation in St. Michael Parish Religious Education Program (PREP)• Prayer as a part of child’s life• A growing ability to distinguish between accidents and the right and wrong choices they make• A capacity for sincere sorrow and ability to change their actions
